Milford Public Schools is committed to promoting healthy schools by supporting wellness, nutrition, and physical activity. As mentioned in their 健康政策, Milford Public Schools supports an environment in which children can learn and participate in healthy dietary and lifestyle practices. The key areas of their Wellness Policy includes nutrition education, physical activity, and other school-based activities that are designed to promote student wellness. The Food & Nutrition department at Milford Public Schools is dedicated to providing meals that are balanced and appealing to meet nutritional needs of the students.
On April 3, 2023, Milford Public Schools teamed up with Framingham State University’s Coordinated Program in Dietetics to provide their kindergarten students nutrition education. Student dietitian, Nedge Pierre-Louis taught students about the five food groups and which foods belonged to each. Students learned the importance of incorporating protein, vegetables, fruit, grains, and dairy in all of their meals to help give them energy for physical activity. During the lesson, students participated in an activity in which they identified their favorite food from each food group and how it helped to fuel their favorite physical activity. By the end of the lesson, students were able to list foods from all five food groups.
